Here’s why you should consider NFTs as a way of marketing fashion

NFT’s or non-fungible tokens are digital files whose unique identity and ownership are identified on a blockchain. These are not mutually interchangeable. Until recently, virtual clothes are bought in video games. On February 27, design studio Rtfkt and 18-year-old digital artist Fewocious released a trio of doodled over Air-Force One-esque virtual sneakers for around $3,000, $5,000, or even $10,000 a pop. RTFKT Studios has said a lot of “big brands and celebs” have reached out to it for collaborations, which raises the prospect of digital versions of real-life shoes.

So what do you think is the new trend in marketing? NFTs are capable of turning virtual fashion to tangible profits.

These digital assets are commonly created and uploaded on various digital marketplaces. The digital fashion is firstly meant to adapt to sustainable lifestyle yet be able to flaunt fashion trends. Fashion brands can use digital assets of their garments to influencer as ad promotions instead of shipping the real garment. Influencers now could invest in NFTs for their social media #OOTD. Earlier this year, TopShot sold more than $150 million in video clips as NFTs, including a LeBron James dunk that fetched a record-setting $208,000. The musician Grimes has cashed in on NFTs, too, selling $6 million of her art in a single day on February 28. Even Christie’s, the famed auction house, is getting in on the action and sold an NFT artwork by Beeple for over $69 million last week. We tend to over-consume fashion which takes a toll on our environment. Manufacturing and distribution aren’t an issue anymore — they’ll just need to create the assets and establish a network to host NFTs on the blockchain. Brands can sell NFT versions of their existing silhouettes and create digital-first designs to win over collectors. Market for NFT Wearables will be massive.
